Are More Mortgages the Answer to Housing Affordability?

On Monday, JPMorgan Chase announced plans for a 40% increase in mortgage lending, extending loans to 500,000 home buyers (including 200,000 first-time home buyers) through 2035. More than just altruism, this ties into – and in fact is a part of – a broader $750 billion initiative into affordable housing, which includes the bank's plans to finance the construction of 1 million affordable housing units.
